BBC Stargazing Live 2014!
« on: December 05, 2013, 08:05:38 pm »

The BBC Stargazing LIVE 2014 television show is being held on the 7th, 8th and 9th of January.
This year the BBC Stargazing LIVE 2014 events are covering the whole of January for 2014!

We will be holding public observing sessions over the course of January at our Herne & Broomfield Community Park dark site. All members of the public are welcome to come and view through our scopes. Feel free to bring your binoculars and / or your telescopes if you wish. Any imagers are welcome to attend. We will have our 16" Meade Lightbridge and an ED80 refractor on a GOTO mount for people to look through.

The sessions will start properly at approximately 8.30pm, as we need to set the scopes up. We will end the sessions at approximately 11.30pm.

Event plans:
(The following, plus any objects of interest discussed on the Stargazing LIVE program each night).
  • A tour of constellations.
  • Interesting objects visible through binoculars & small scopes.
  • Objects observable through a larger scope.
There will also hopefully be resource materials again this year for us to give out to members and visitors to the event.

These may include:
  • Star Guide Booklet - The popular resource returns
  • A calendar with things to watch out for in the night sky throughout the year, as well as fantastic facts on space weather, exploration and the Milky Way and other galaxies.

Our entry on the BBC Things To Do site is here:
(T.B.A as waiting for some edits).

Note: Parking is available at the venue. As you go through the gate, just follow the road up to the car park. We will hopefully be able to place some lighting for directions.

Please remember:
NO Smoking on the site
NO Bright white lights near the observing area
BRING A flask of something warm!!
If you have one, bring along a torch with the lens covered in a red material to help you retain your eyes night vision. Red lens torches can be bought from plenty of retailers cheaply.

Feel free to ask any questions about the H.B.A.A.S Stargazing LIVE 2014 event.
